The 35th Minimalen Short Film Festival proudly presents more than 250 unique world class films from Tuesday 10th to Sunday 15th of January 2023 at Nova Cinema and Cinemateket Trondheim.
And, yes. the festival will take place on-site!

(6 programmes with 40 films from the whole wide world outside the Nordic Countries)
• NOR: Nordic Competiton
(6 programmes with 45 films from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland)
• Multiplié Dance Film
Two competitions for International and Nordic films respectively, highlighting the powerful combination of dance and film - presented by DansiT. (2 programmes, 22 films)
• Romance: Affairs of the Heart
Date Night! (1 programme, 9 films)
• Comedy Shorts
Have som fun! (1 programme, 9 films)
• Horror: Ramaskrik Presents
Horror film of the short form, selected by the leading national curators of fear.
• Children and Youth Programmes
Barnimalen supplies films for kids in two age groups, and so does the Young school programmes for grades 8-10 and 11-13, respectively. (4 programmes)
• Opening Screening
Celebratory screening including brand new regional films and tastes from the The 35th Minimalen.
• One-minute-films
(1 programme with 62 films from Norway in two competition categories)

• Agnès Varda Retrospective
A substantial retrospective of recently restored films with this uncompromising director. (3 programmes, 12 films)
• Short Film Studies Symposium
The shorts of Agnès Varda are at the center of attention and academic treatment. A real vitamin injection for anyone who wants to understand and create short films.
• Maya Deren Complete
A complete retrospective with films restored for her centennial. (2 programmes, 9 films)
• Finnish Media Art: AV-arkki
A pioneering distributor of Finnish media art over three decades, offering artistic ingenuety, explorative energy and reckless imagination. (2 programmes, 14 films)
• Focus: Douwe Dijkstra
Dutch filmmaker and visual artist, operating in a mixture of video, animation and VFX, delivering playful treatments of at times difficult subjects. (1 programme, 5 films)
• Industry: Nordic Shorts Expo
Three days where filmmakers can meet buyers, distributors and representatives from major international festivals in a relaxed setting.
