Opening Screening & Party
Tuesday 18:00 [Nova 1]

Midtnorsk filmsenter (The Regional Film Centre) and Minimalen invites you to a festive screening in the Liv Ullmann theatre.

In the first half, the film center will present three short productions from three different filmmakers. The film production community in the Trøndelag region has grown bigger and stronger over the years, at the same time the breadth and diversity in the cinematic expression has expanded.

In the second half, Minimalen will provide a taste of the rich festival programme awaiting during the week. We get to hear the curators talk about some of the special programs, and welcome a couple of the profiles and jury members that have arrived at this point.

After the screening, we move over to the opening party.

SPRING FOR LIVET (RUN FOR YOUR LIFE)

About Kristoffer, a war veteran from the UN forces in Afghanistan. During his military service he has done horrible stuff he can´t tell anyone about. This increasingly affects both him and his family in their presumably safe home in Norway.

Vidar Dahl (b. 1967) is known for short poetic films with a strong visual expression based on his own poems. He has written and directed a number of films that have been screended at festivals worldwide, including Recognition (2011), Changing Hands (2014) and Cleaning Up (2016).

VEGGEN (THE HALF WALL)

A gay couple’s lunch break does not go as planned as they engage in a discussion about how they can renovate their cabin bathroom. Suddenly, they find themselves in a heated argument leading to a series of misunderstandings.

Ida H. Eldøen (f. 1981) is a director and a producer in the company Tagline, which she co-founded. In recent years she has mainly worked as a producer and photographer, and The Half Wall is her comeback as a film director. Ida H. Eldøen is fearless and straightforward, and brings everyday situations up on the canvas. The film has been selected for several festivals in Europe and USA, and won the audience award at West Nordic International Film Festival in 2018.

STEINHUGGEREN
(THE LEGACY #3: THE STONEMASON)

Johannes Klem works as a stonemason at Nidaros Cathedral. He is an introverted person who has struggled to find his place in life. But through the stone carving he becomes one with hammer, chisel and stone. This is one of four short documentaries in the series ’The Legacy’ on old craftsmanships about to disappear. Do we need these crafts and their values in a modern world?

Mari Nilsen Neira (b. 1976) is a director and producer and has made award-winning documentaries, screened on TV and at festivals. She has developed her artistic expression through the short documentary format. Mari Nilsen Neira has the ability to merge artistic ambitions and deep social engagement in a way that touches and makes for reflection.
