Welcome to The 34th Minimalen Short Film Festival!
The 34th Minimalen Short Film Festival proudly presents 244 unique world class films from Tuesday 11th to Sunday 16th of January 2022 at Nova Cinema and Cinemateket Trondheim.
The festival will take place on-site in the best possible way, cf. the current rules for infection control - ie with up to 50 people at each screening, and up to 20 people at social events.

• INT: International Competition
(6 programmes with 39 films from the whole wide world outside the Nordic Countries)
• NOR: Nordic Competiton
(6 programmes with 40 films from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland)
• Multiplié Dance Film
Two competitions for International and Nordic films respectively, highlighting the powerful combination of dance and film - presented by DansiT. (2 programmes, 21 films)
• One-minute-films
(1 programme with 62 films from Norway in two competition categories)
• European Award Winners
(4 programmes with 20 films nominated to European Film Awards)
• Children and Youth Programmes
Barnimalen supplies films for kids in two age groups, and so does the Young school programmes for grades 8-10 and 11-13, respectively. (4 programmes)
• Opening Screening
Celebratory screening including brand new regional films and tastes from the The 34th Minimalen.
• Regional Student Competition
Students from Trøndelag, Nordland, Troms and Finnmark's film, TV, and animation studies fight for the title Best Student Film 2021.

• Lynne Ramsay
A complete retrospective with this uncompromising Scottish director who already with her debut short crushed the competition in Cannes, and has since enthused the audiences with her poetic social realism. (5 programmes with 9 shorts and features)
• Short Film Studies Symposium
The shorts of Lynne Ramsay are at the center of attention and academic treatment, together with the film Trade Queen by David Wagner. A real vitamin injection for anyone who wants to understand and create short films.
• Queer Year of Culture
In 2022, it will be 50 years since homosexuality was decriminalized in Norway. Short film is the film format of the underground - so what makes more sense than presenting a selection of quality films that thematize identity, diversity and the struggle for self-respect in this format.
• Ramaskrik Presents
Horror film of the short form, selected by the leading national curators of fear.
• Mid Nordic Female Film Network
A sample of recent films from the network for female filmmakers in the central regions of the Nordic Countries.
• Industry: Nordic Shorts Expo
Three days where filmmakers can meet buyers, distributors and representatives from major international festivals in a relaxed setting.
