Welcome to The 36th Minimalen Short Film Festival!

The 36th Minimalen Short Film Festival proudly presents more than 230 unique world class films from Tuesday 23rd to Sunday 28th of January 2024 at Nova Cinema and Cinemateket Trondheim.

• INT: International Competition
An exquisite collection with some of the very best recent films from around the world outside the Nordic region

• NOR: Nordic Competiton
A refined selection of key films from the Nordics (incl. Norway) in the past year
(6 programmes, 42 films)

• Multiplié Dance Film
Two competitions for International and Nordic films respectively, highlighting the powerful combination of dance and film - presented by DansiT.
(2 programmes, 20 films)

• Horror: Ramaskrik Presents
Horror film of the short form from the leading national curators of fear.
(1 program, 6 filmer)

• Children and Youth Programmes Barnimalen and Young deliver films for kids from the first stage of primary school to upper secondary school.

• Opening Screening
Celebratory screening with brand new regional films and tasty treats from the upcoming 36th Minimalen.

• Regional Student Competition
Students from Trøndelag, Nordland, Troms and Finnmark's film, TV, and animation studies fight for the title Best Student Film 2023.

• One-minute-films
(1 programme with approx. 60 films from Norway in two competition categories)

• Focus: Hlynur Pálmason
A broad presentation of this uncompromising Icelandic director, including a Masterclass.

• Machinima - Game graphics film
Created by the gaming community, Machinima has become an important medium for contemporary artists and experimental filmmakers. (3 programmes, 12 films - curated by Vladimir Nadein and Dmitry Frolov)

• Ugly Animation
Discover the ugliness in all its glory with animated films from artists who play with perception and enjoy coloring outside the lines! (1 programme, 9 films - curated by Aneta Ozorek)

• Prosjektor filmproduksjon
20th anniversary for the Trondheim-based student-run film production.
(1 programme, 13 films)

• Norwegian Offspring
Special screening of the La Cinef winner from Cannes 2023, directed by Minimalen alumni Marlene Lyngstad. (1 programme, 1 film)

• Short Film Studies Symposium
Two acclaimed short films are investigated with the participation of the filmmakers in the framework of the journal Short Film Studies, under the direction of editor Cynthia Felando. A vitamin injection for anyone who wants to understand short films better.

• Industry: Nordic Shorts Expo
Three days where filmmakers can meet buyers, distributors and representatives from major international festivals in a relaxed setting.

• Industry: Short Film Convention 2024
