The Selection Committee has made this selection of 27 films from the 252 considered candidates from the Nordic Countries except Norway. The Nordic Competition is screened in four parts on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The directors are presented at the beginning of each screening. Afterwards, they get the opportunity to talk about their film in Meet the Filmmakers.
Awards: Nordic Independent Film Awards (NIFA): Four films are awarded by the Jury, and all winners receive a NIFA trophy. Please note that the films in the Norwegian Competition also participate. NIFA Best Film: Trophy and EUR 1 000 donated by Foto Schrøder. NIFA Best Fiction: Trophy and 5 reels of 35 mm film from Kodak. NIFA Best Documentary: Trophy. NIFA Best Animation or Art Film: Trophy.
The Award Jury for NIFA - Norwegian and Nordic Competition:
RÚNAR RÚNARSSON (b. 1977, Iceland), film director and scriptwriter. With a personal style characterized by compassionate dilemmas, strong casting and sensitive direction, he is regarded as one of the greatest film talents in Europe. One feature film (Volcano, 2011), and among other shorts, The Last Farm (2004, Academy Award nominee) and 2 Birds (2008).
KAREN RAIS-NORDENTOFT (b. 1965, Denmark), holds a degree in Comparative Literature and Czech Language from University of Aarhus (1996), and in project organization and management. Founded in 1997 what became Aarhus Filmfestival, where she is the Director to date. Also Festival Director of Nordisk Panorama Aarhus since 2001 (every five years). She is currently teaching film as well as preparing the next edition of the Aarhus Filmfestival.
PER TELJER (b. 1970, Sweden), film/video artist, educated at Trondheim Academy of Fine Art (KiT). Lives and works in Berlin and Oslo, at the same time as he holds a position as Associate professor and head of The Time Based Art Department at KiT. Has been a prominent figure in Scandinavian art in recent years, with video works that are script based and with a narrative action.

Kristoffer is on a night bus together with his girlfriend and another couple. When a very drunk young couple get on the bus, the situation reveals something about Kristoffer that he had hitherto repressed.

A film about a teenage boy, his father's suicide and the emotional vacuum that occurred afterwards. Through forgotten drawings and photographs, we follow a young boy's attempt to escape a painful memory and handle things on his own, just like his dad used to do.

Klaus, dressed as Santa, wanders into an apartment block with the sole intention of jumping off the balcony. The little girl who lives there, however, still believes in good things and gives Klaus the chance to confide in her.
Mattias står foran et skjellsettende øyeblikk, og begynner å tenke på sitt vanskelige forhold til faren. Gjennom et kritisk døgn skjer det noe som får ham til å gjenoppta kontakten.
When Mattias faces a life-defining moment, thoughts about his difficult relationship with his father set in. During a critical day and night something happens that might make him talk to his father again.

Mange aboriginere tror at fotografier stjeler sjelen. Uten sjel er man fordømt, og kan ikke lenger bli født på ny.
Many aboriginal tribes believe that if someone has their photograph taken, they lose their soul. Without a soul, the person is doomed and can no longer be reborn.
Hanna (32) er på vei hjem en sen kveld når hun møter på en kjenning, Andreas (20) som inviterer henne på fest. Når de kommer inn i leiligheten skjønner Hanna at festen består av fem gutter på tjue år.
32-year-old Hanna, is on her way home one late evening when she runs into an acquaintance, 20- year-old Andreas, who invites her to a party. When they enter the apartment Hanna realizes that the party consists of five 20-year-old boys.
