The production company Barbosa Film was established in 2014 by the sisters Nina Maria and Liv Joelle Barbosa Blad, with a focus on diversity and new voices. In particular, the gender policy agenda runs as a common thread through the filmography of 13 short films in addition to the award-winning drama series Nudes. In a Norwegian film industry that especially in the feature film area is buzzing around in a fog of biopics and more or less successful attempts at making Hollywood films, Barbosa Film represents a breath of fresh air, with a number of new filmmakers who deliberately seek to set the agenda in an enriching way, and do not hesitate to use provocation as a means of capturing our attention.
The films have visited quality festivals such as Cannes (Critics' Week), Clermont-Ferrand, Busan, Uppsala and Winterthur - and Minimalen has regularly had the pleasure of screening their shorts, most recently with The Manila Lover which received Honorable Mention last year. They have also won several awards, including the national Amanda award twice and the prestigious Startsladden in Gothenburg. Here we will present an excerpt of the production over the last five years, a majority of which has been screened with us before.
