Film School: Animation at Volda University College

The animation program at Volda University College was the first animation education in Norway. The school offers a 3-year bachelor's degree, but has plans to expand to a master's degree. The whole range of animation techniques are covered, spanning from basic animation exercises to the most advanced 3D techniques.

In addition to educating animators, we place great emphasis on covering all the animation film specialist functions, such as directing, storyboarding, editing, character design, etc.

The school was important in the development of the new animation industry in Norway in the mid 90's through the alumni in startups such as Qvisten, Troll Film and Microfilm.

Twenty years later the same trend continues, most recently being Rain Dog Studios, which was established in Volda in 2012 by seven former students. Animated films from Volda has had great success at film festivals worldwide, including Minimalen. The school's international position was further confirmed by a retrospective at the key animation festival in Hiroshima in 2012.
