Welcome to The 30th Minimalen Short Film Festival!

The 30th Minimalen Short Film Festival proudly presents 250 world class films from Tuesday 23rd to Sunday 28th of January 2018 at Nova Cinema and Cinemateket in Trondheim, Norway.

Be among the first to watch the seminal films, and celebrate talented filmmakers from all over the world. Afterwards, you can have a beer together at the Festival Club. Welcome to this year's film fest!

• INT: International Competition
(6 programmes with 42 films from the whole wide world outside the Nordic Countries)

• NOR: Nordic Competiton
(7 programmes with 48 films from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland)

• One-minute-films
(1 programme with more than 50 films from Norway)

• European Award Winners
(3 programmes with 15 films nominated to European Film Awards)

Children and youth Programmes
'Barnimalen' supplies films for kids in two age groups. New this year are 'Young', school programs for grades 8-10 and 'Videregående skole', respectively. (4 programmes)

• Outdoor Cinema
Come to Adressaparken at Solsiden and watch shorts in the open air! First a program for children, later a program for adults, both organized by Spætt Film.

• Multiplié Dance Film
Dance and film is a powerful combination. DansiT presents a wide spectre of worldwide dance films.

• Opening Screening & Reception
Celebratory screening including brand new regional films and tastes from the The 30th Minimalen, followed by an opening reception.

• Short Film Studies Symposium
Two acclaimed short film are investigated to see how they work, with the participation of both filmmakers. A proper energizer for anyone who wants to understand or create a short film.

• Regional Student Competition
Students from Trøndelag’s film, TV, and animation studies fight for the title Trøndelag’s Best Student Film 2017.

 

• Iran Now
New films from Iran thematizing gender and identity, presented in cooperation with Marziyeh Riahi of Short Film News. (2 programmes)

• Nick Jordan
Get to know this contemporary, British documentary film artist.

• Estonian Animation
World leading puppet animation from Nukufilm, celebrating 60 years, the same year Estonia celebrates its 100 years.

• Hollywood Revisited: Mark Rappaport Essays
Film-historical video essays about art and society from previously unexplored perspectives, presented by the legend Rappaport personally.

• Norwegian Film Art: Rolf Aamot and Ane Hjort Guttu
The exploration of Norwegian film art's history continues with two key names from two eras. Kunsthall Trondheim offers a further opportunity to get acquainted with Ane Hjort Guttu from 10-28 January.

• Trondhjem 1908
Bjørn Sørenssen (Professor Emeritus, NTNU) shares a unique look at historic Trondheim through 110 years old film material, at the centennial of Trondheim kino.

• 30th Anniversary Screening
Some of the films that have left lasting marks through 30 years of short film festival - or Greatest Hits, if you prefer. Next stop is the Anniversary Party.

• Short Treats
Entertaining films borrowed from the International and Nordic competitions.

• Industry: Nordic Shorts Expo
Three days where filmmakers can meet buyers, distributors and representatives from major international festivals in a relaxed setting.
