The National Film School of Denmark

The National Film School of Denmark was founded in 1966. After a turbulent start-up period the school received recognition in the 90's when many of its students had success, particulary via the Dogme movement. As its main learning theory the school has always focused on the use of conditions in the creative process, this was an important precursor for the ten rules of the Dogme movement. Also, Mogens Rukov, the script teacher of the school, was an important figure and a source of inspiration for the filmmakers of that period. The school started out with only one programme of filmmaking, but has now expanded to include documentaries, script writing, animation and computer games.

The School has produced talents such as Lars Von Trier, Lone Scherfig and Susanne Bier (the 80's), Thomas Vinterberg and Per Fly (the 90's), and Christoffer Boe, Anders Morgenthaler, Dagur Kári and now recently Rúnar Rúnarsson (the 00's). Noteworthy Norwegians are, amongst others, Erlend Loe (script writing) and Erlend E. Moe (documentaries). The programme is presented by Jacob Jarek, a student in the producers programme.
