UGLY ANIMATION
Art and animation frees us from striving for an ideal, because they by their very nature counteract the notion of a standardized look, shape or size. Can a body of a puppet or drawn character that breaks the current canon of beauty also be beautiful? Well, just take a look at the evolution of the ideal female body from Venus of Willendorf via Venus of Botticelli to contemporary Multiverse’s avatars. The notion of the perfect is a futile way of thinking - being perfect is a farcical fantasy that distracts us from being innovative and creative.
In Ugly Animation, curator Aneta Ozorek sheds light on the shifts in canons of beauty in animation and how it impacts perceptions of the architecture of the future animation worlds. Discover ugliness in all its glory with the works of artists who play with perception and color outside the lines, literally. This is a selection of the prophets of a new religion: Ugly is the New Beautiful.

Ved å bruke tresnittteknikk trykte han tegninger direkte på celluloiden, og skildrer en livssyklus ved hjelp av et aldrende ansikt. From the 60's, Polish avant-garde filmmaker Julian Antoniszczak devoted himself to non-camera animation.
