KiT Jubilee
Minimalen has made us aware that the department of Intermedia at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art (KiT) celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2010. For this reason I've been asked to curate a program of selected video works with a connection to the department. So, what to do, where to start? There's a lot of ways to solve this task. I decided to focus on three areas: student works, works by former students produced after their time at KiT and works by former teachers at the department. When I started to look into all the work produced at KiT, mostly at the department of Intermedia in the last 20 years, I discovered that the sheer amount is staggering. A great deal of the films produced at the the department of Intermedia would not fit well in the context of a regular film program, like site-specific video installations, performances, sound works, and so on.
Many of the older works still exist in our library, stored on "top of the line" media from yesteryear, almost unusable today due to the difficulty of finding still working media players for these video formats. But I think I have an advantage due to the fact that I attended KiT as a student in the first half of the 1990's, and because my memory still serves me well (I hope). I went searching "down the memory lane" and combined the findings with notes from meetings and talks I've had with students during the last ten years of work on and off as a guest teacher at KiT. The selection in ths program is based on film and video works operating in, or in some cases bordering to, a narrative mode. I would also like to stress that this is a subjective selection, as it always must be, in some form or another. There are a lot of works of artists and former students which absolutely deserve to be included, but isn't. That's the way it always will be, and the program should therefore not be seen as a sort of ”The best of Intermedia”. But still, there are works here that would fit well in such a program, if someone should endeavour something as ambitious.
Enough with my personal excuses, this is an exciting program with a wide range, from subtle visual states, silent movies, experimental movies, documentaries, fiction and confrontational POVs. The process of watching all the material has been of great value for me, I hope and believe that this will show. Enjoy!

• ME THE CHICKEN THE BABY & THE LORD Moen sendte en diktafon til sin gode venn Matt Burt i USA og inviterte ham til å spille inn lyd. De 30 timer med opptak han fikk tilbake inspirerte ham til å lage disse filmene. Super 8 film fra Illinois og Texas. Moen sent at dictaphone to his dear friend Matt Burt in the USA and invited him to record sounds. He received 30 hours worth of recordings, which inspired him to make these films.
