STATEMENT TOO:
MEET JØRN UTKILEN AND ARVID SLETTA
Auteur filmmaker Jørn Utkilen has used music from the first album of Arvid Sletta, Statement, in several of his films. In this documentary, Jørn explores his fascination for Arvid, while also wanting share Arvid Sletta with the public. In the film as well as in the subsequent stage talk, we can promise an encounter between two alternative artists who share a distinct waywardness and sensitivity in their expressions, with indications of mutually beneficial effects on each other's art practice.
Guitar player and composer Arvid Sletta (b. 1960, Frøya, Norway) started his career in the band Easy Riders in the mid 80s. When the band broke up, Arvid continued as a solo artist, and recorded the album Statement in 1990. Nowadays this release is a sought-after collector's item with great cult status. Jørn Utkilen (b. 1971, Norway) has his film education from Scotland and has written and directed a number of films in Scotland and Norway, including Size 5 which was a double prizewinner at Minimalen in 2006. Under the pseudonym Jeorge Elkin he made the film Wind Over Lake, which won the Audience Award at Clermont-Ferrand in 2012. Under his own name he delivered the middle-length film Earth Over Wind in 2014, and is now working on his debut feature film Vann over ild. The films of both Jørn and Jeorge have a distinct visual and narrative style characterized by warm, smart humor, with eccentric characters located on the outskirts of society. |
