The School of Film Directing at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, has provided the Nordic film community with unique and personal voices. It was created in 1997 under the art faculty. The aim is to deepen and develop the personal film language, and to create an awareness and an attitude to artistic creation and research as well as to economic, social and environmental values that influence society.
The school educates directors in the auteur tradition, which recognizes the filmmaker's artistic status. Several Norwegian directors has also studied at the school, and left their mark in the Norwegian film community with their personal and challenging films. Seen in context with the recent Norwegian film school debate, and the so-called Western Swedish wave, the school must be said to be a beacon in the Nordic film education.
